Quote:
‘There is no need to worry about mere size. We do not necessarily respect a fat man more than a thin man. Sir Isaac Newton was very much smaller than a hippopotamus, but we do not on that account value him less.’

Obesity Trap No. 1. FAT IS A FEMINIST ISSUE, but it's also a health issue.
You may not like what you read in this first obesity trap. Truth really hurts. In simple explanation, obesity means an excess of body fat, and obesity is one of those conditions that only worsens with age. Physically, obesity is caused by consuming calories than your body can use. If you weigh 20 percent more than what is considered normal weight for your height and age, you are considered to be obese. If you are 100 pounds over your normal weight, that is considered morbid obesity. At least one out of five middle-aged women is overweight or obese. Get my drift?

Obesity Trap No. 2 .An Obese woman usually produces more estrogen
Lucky for you. But don’t get complacent over this ‘trap’ number two. Interestingly, there are some advantages to obesity. An overweight woman produces more estrogen. Therefore, she may have fewer hot flashes during menopause and less risk of osteoporosis over the long term. She is also less likely to give birth to a premature baby or a baby whose birth weight is low.
However, the disadvantages of obesity far outweigh- the advantages. As you age, obesity is considered to be a risk factor in high blood pressure and diabetes. In general, obesity increases your risk of heart disease. While a woman's body has more fat in proportion to a man's, you don't want to use this biological truth to rationalize being extremely over-weight. There is little to recommend obesity; that includes the fact that since you do gain weight it is usually extremely hard to lose that weight-a lot harder than it was to put it on... It also causes backache.
Think we are going somewhere, I say we are even at this stage. Just continue reading the next obesity trap. Trust me you will agree with me!
Then let’s give a shout to obesity trap number three. Right?
Obesity Trap No. 3. Obesity May Shorten a woman's or a man’s life span
What you are about to read is not a ‘Chicken or Egg’ conspiracy! An undisputable fact revealed in a recent studies have also shown that frank obesity (weighing at least 30 percent more than the desirable weight for your height and frame) may shorten a woman's life span.
In particular, the sixteen-year's study over 100,000 female nurses has found that approximately 300,000 deaths per year can be attributed to obesity. While this-may seem alarming it's important to note that other factors in addition to overweight, such as a family history of heart disease or diabetes (two conditions in which obesity may be a cause), may also have been part of a profile of risk factors of any one of the participants in the study.
Are you getting into this at this juncture? Or it is rubbing you the wrong way. If you are still on the same page with me, go ahead and read some more. But brace yourself for some unpleasant truth!
OK! Then, let’s look into trap number four! Any objections? If no, what are you waiting for?
Obesity Trap No. 4. Fashion Determines the Extent of Obesity.
It's true that throughout this century women have battled the fashion prototype of the day. Even as many of us may long for the days of Rubens’s women, the realty as that we battle the image of the rail-thin woman. Just as diet and exercise should be approached with common sense, so should weight. Moderation is the key. You don't want to be too fat or too thin. If you are obese there are many reasons that make you eat too much, and no one should judge you for being overweight.
You are who you are; you are not what you weigh. But by the same token; you should examine your reasons for being overweight and try to find a healthy and acceptable way to-get help in changing you’re eating and exercise habits and losing weight not because of anyone else's values but for your health's sake. Never let anyone dismiss you or treat you unfairly because you are obese. But, if good health is your goal, do not dismiss your problem either.
Obesity Trap No. 5.Heredity Reason
It determines, at least partially, how many fat cells your body has and how large these fat cells are. Your genes may also contribute to what is called your body's set point that weight at which your body feels most comfortable and needs a great deal of prodding to go below.
Several studies have shown that identical twins, separated at birth, have similar body types, including obesity, when reunited years later. It makes sense that the-genes that determine everything else about us also play a role in obesity.
Obese people may have slower metabolisms. That means they bum food for fuel at a slower rate than thin people, no matter what kind of food they are eating.
Congratulations for reading up to this final paragraph. I sincerely hope that by reading this paragraph by now you have found the answers to your weight and health questions. In any case, I hope you have enjoyed it. I, for one, took great pleasure in writing, this article because the research I did enabled me to organize information in my mind that I have haphazardly learned over the years The greatest conclusion I have come to, supported by my research and synthesizing, has become my conviction- We are what we eat and what we do! Period.
